Spiced Chocolate Overnight Oats

It's September 1st which for me is the first day of the fall season. I won't go full Halloween for a few more weeks but I will start indulging some cravings for things that are autumnal. I haven't shared a recipe in a while, but I thought I would kick off the season with something easy with this Spiced Chocolate Overnight Oats. Okay so I know overnight oats are sort of old news, but how often has a quick breakfast saved your butt in the morning?

The Ingredients:

1/2 cup steel cut oats
1 cup soy milk or milk of your preference
1 tablespoon cacao power
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
A dash of cayenne, chili powder, or spice of your preference

To make it, throw it into a container or jar, leave it overnight, and BAM breakfast. I don't like super sweet things first thing in the morning so you could add a little agave, brown sugar, or other sweeteners if that's your preference. To me, these are rich, warming, and make me stoked that it's September.

There are a lot of other recipes and websites where they scoop into a nice bowl and jazz it up with cut fruit and other toppings. The photos are beautiful and it looks delicious, but to do all that would defeat the purpose of why I love overnight oats. I just grab the mason jar out of the fridge, stick it in my backpack, and have something ready for when I arrive at work, school, whatever.

How are you celebrating the impending arrival of fall?
