To be perfectly honest, this book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, but that's not a bad thing! If it's been a while since you really did a self evaluation of yourself as a small business owner/freelancer OR if you're just starting out, this book is awesome! One of of my all time favorite crafty how to books is Crafty Superstar (which you can read my previous review about here), but Crafty Superstar tends to focus on things like doing craft shows. Not that it doesn't have other great information it at as well, but it doesn't always get down to the meat and potatoes of freelance work. Creative, Inc is a the starting point that we all need with great resources regarding things like licenses, taxes, customer relations, getting an agent, etc.
After finishing this book, I have purchased a new day planner and have completely reorganized the way I go about organizing my day. This may not sound like a huge take-away from this book, but I am a Day Planner Snob. I write in my planner incessantly and I am always looking for the planner that is the best laid out and that will save my life when it comes to keeping track of everything. What Creative, Inc helped me to realize was that I am trying to fit my life and my schedule into someone else's mold. No wonder I feel so disorganized and chaotic all of the time! What I needed was an organization method that didn't require me to put my life in someone else's pre made boxes. I ended up investing in a bunch of Russel+Hazel materials! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
